How sources and confidence are handled

Manufacturer support pages and manuals are preferred. Repair sites and communities are treated as secondary context.

Confidence levels

  • Official manufacturer support: manufacturer support page or official documentation backs the record.
  • Manual-backed documentation: an appliance manual or service document backs the record.
  • Repair guidance support: reputable repair guidance supports the record, but official confirmation is still preferred.
  • Community report only: community reports exist, but the page needs stronger verification.
  • Unverified source state: do not index until reviewed.

Editorial rules

  • Use cautious wording such as "usually indicates" and "common causes include".
  • Do not copy manuals verbatim.
  • Do not present a code meaning as an exact diagnosis.
  • Show last verified dates on indexable detail pages.

Severity levels

Severity describes how urgently to treat a code while staying within owner-safe observation. It is not a diagnosis and does not identify a failed part by itself.

  • High safety urgency: Use high when continued operation may involve water near wiring, heat, fire, gas, food-safety risk, entrapment, sealed-system work, or another stop-use boundary.
  • Medium caution: Use medium when the code usually needs prompt attention, repeat monitoring, or qualified service when owner-safe checks leave the cause unexplained.
  • Lower immediate risk: Use low when the record points to settings, balance, suds, or other conditions that are commonly owner-observable and not an automatic stop-use warning.
  • Under review: Use unknown only for unpublished or review-only records where the safety boundary is not yet clear enough for indexing.

  • No source URL or unclear source type.
  • No safety warning for electricity, water, gas, heat, or access risk.
  • Only a code meaning, with no first checks or escalation boundary.
  • Alias or model context that would duplicate another canonical page.
